Behavior in the Library


Purpose of the Oregon Trail Library District Code of Conduct

  • To protect the rights and safety of of library patrons.
  • To protect the rights and safety of library staff members.
  • To preserve and protect the library district property.

Behavior Rules

Committing or attempting to commit any activity that would constitute a violation of any federal, state, or local criminal statute or ordinance.  This will result in immediate expulsion from the library without first being given a warning.

Violation of the following behavior rules may result in immediate expulsion and possibly permanent expulsion from the library.

  • Engaging in conduct that disrupts or interfers with the normal operation of the library, or disturbs library staff or patrons, but not limited to, conduct that involves the use of threatening or abusive language or gestures, loud talking, running, or other boisterous behavior.
  • Defacing, abuse or misuse of library materials, equipment, furnishings, fixtures or buildings in a potentially damaging manner or in a manner likely to cause personal injury.
  • Disobeying the reasonable direction of a staff member.
  • Congregating in or around entrances, inside or out and interfering with the free passage of library staff or patrons on the library premises, including, but not limited to, placing objects such as bicycles, skateboards, backpacks or other items in a manner that interferes with free passage, placing personal belongings on or against buildings or fextures in a manner that interferes with library staff or patron use of library facilities.
  • Parking vehicles on library premises for purposes other than library use.  Vehicles parked in violation of this rule may be towed at the owner's expense.
  • Smoking or other use of tobacco; possession of alcohol.
  • Bringing in and consuming food or drink.
  • Using cell phones in the library.  Cell phones shall be turned off upon entering the library.
  • Violating the computer use policy.
  • Using personal electronic equipment at the volume that disturbs others, including, but not limited to, pagers and stereos.
  • Leaving one or more children under the age of eight, who appear to be unsupervised or attended by a responsible adult , anywhere in or on the library premises.
  • Patrons are asked to dress appropriately; shirts and shoes are required.
  • Disturbing or offensive body odor.
  • Littering.
